you would need to get a USB tethering app for the phone and for the PC
that, and the short length of the cabling, make this impractical
i would recommend just going out and buy a $ 30 usb to wifi adaptor for the PC, then you can use your iphone anywhere in range

if your eligible for a 2 year upgrade its $ 199 for the 16 gb and $ 299 for the 32gb…dont forget u have to get a data plan!!!

It isnt that you cant use the internet with an iphone on tmo, its that you wont get 3g on it, you will be stuck on EDGE, which is slower. Doesnt matter which iphone…
For what its worth, there is a strong possibility that tmobile is getting the iphone 3gs early 2011, if that makes a difference to you.

I am currently using a family plan. My phone is not eligible for an iphone upgrade, but one of the other lines is. Do iphone’s work like regular phones where I can “upgrade” another line and then just transfer my sim card to it and it works for my line? Yeah what you want is an Alternate upgrade , you can use the other phone’s upgrade to upgrade your phone.
If you just put your sim into the phone make sure to call at&t and tell them you’ve switch to the new phone so they can make sure your account has the needed data plan, otherwise you could get overage fees for using the phone.

If you have some reason to specifically update only to 4.1, then you’ll have to download it from some 3rd party website.
Beware, they may contain bugs, or be broken somehow. Only trust software that comes from Apple when it comes to your iPhone. But if you really need to get 4.1, just download it from somewhere else.

Whenever I plug my headphones in to my first generation iPhone, when they are about halfway in, music starts playing! It always starts on a playlist that is created on my phone. Is this normal?

Does it play where you left off last time. If yes, what’s happening is that the iphone headphones have a mic which is also a remote that controls the iphone playback. In this case, when you plug in your headphones halfway, it sends a signal to the iphone that the button for playback has been pressed. Either there’s dirt in the headphone jack(try blowing some air), or your headphones have a short. Try different set of headphones.

Currently iOS 4.2.1 is available for iPhone 3G and you can jailbreak it. Just google in youtube.
