you can use redsn0w to jailbreak your 3G on iOS 4.2.1. if you want a guide with pics, check out my source, and begin at Step Three since your phone is already on 4.2.1.

First of all, jailbreaking an iphone does not mean you can use it on other carriers. Unlocking an iphone is what you would need to do.
Unfortunately, you can only unlock an iphone to be used on t-mobile, not sprint

my iphone used 2 be jail broken soo i un jail broke it because it wouldnt let me use youtube anymore and stuff like that, i didnt even have the app store, and now that i updated my iphone to 3.0. i found a program that can easily jail break your iphone. but i heard that if i jail break it, all my apps will be gone. even worser, i will have to re arrange them all again, soo im wondering when you do put ur apps back on it, do you loose all your high scores for your games and do you also loose your all music and ringtones?

I would suggest backing up your phone before you do it. That way you can at least restore and get your photos and contacts back. Music wont back up though. Some programs will just install cydia on your phone but some will do a custom restore which will delete all of your stuff.
I always use redsnow which will not erase anything.
Also check out the website jailbreakme.com…….its a very simple jailbreak that you dont even need a computer for! Extrememly simple.
google dev team and read their first blog…it will explain all.

okay so now you can go to JAILBREAKME.COM ON YOUR IPHONE and then slide to jailbreak! you dont have to connect to the computer at all. but they say you should sync your iphone or whatever with itunes for when you wanna go back.. and now jailbreaking is LEGAL in the U.S, but apple says that if you get caught by them that it VOIDS your warrenty, the company that runs jailbreakme.com says that resoring your iphone to IOS makes it so apple cant tell that you jailbroke it…..

If You Have To Take Your Phone In, And You Restored It. Then You Are Fine, They Wont Know.
As Far As Im Concerned, There Isnt A Trojan For iPhones, So No People Cant Take Control Of Your iPhone.

I am trying on my iPhone 3G s and its not working. It keeps lagging out and I have to reset it to factory settings from iTunes. Due to it already has the 3.1 upgrade you can’t jailbreak it. If you bought a iPhone 3G then you could jailbreak it.

It’s a third party software (or a hack) that can unlock the iphone, so you can use it on other GSM carriers besides AT&T.(eg. T-Mobile). Since Apple makes exclusive agreements with phone carriers to sell the iphone through that particular carrier, the jailbreak has become an option for those who want to use an iphone but not want to be a customer of AT&T. Also, you can use jailbreak to install other 3rd party programs that you can’t get through Apple or AT&T.
The downside of using it is, using jailbreak WILL void your warranty. Also, the software can cause problems. If it screws up the firmware, you could have a brick, since Apple won’t service iphones that has had an unlock attempt.

I just jailbroke my Iphone 3g 2.2.1 (no unlock required at a later date) and was trying to use Cydia and Installer to find, download, and install apps I saw specifically from the Itunes store but I don’t know where to go or what do to. Any help is greatly appreciated in advance.

Should be a “icon” named “installer”, try finding that, if you can’t look up Installer for Jailbroken Iphone, on Google.
